Late last month, my husband and I attended an open house for a brand new community performing arts venue called Near West Theatre. The theatre is located on Cleveland's west side and it's centrally located right in the heart of the Gordon Square Arts District. There are lots of cool places to grab a bite to eat and/or drink, shop for vintage and one of a kind clothing, and enjoy the arts.
During our visit of the venue, we had the opportunity to take a behind the scenes tour of the building. There are two levels that offer a great view of the stage and beautifully colored murals in the lobby. We also learned about several upcoming stage performances, Shrek the Musical will be playing later this month and we heard about the green initiatives used in the construction of the building. This open house wasn't just a look and listen affair the theatre really wanted to get the community involved so when we finished the formal tour we were encouraged to try on a few costumes and pose for pictures, leave our mark on the stage by signing a portion of the wall and we hand painted tiles that will be used to decorate the theatre walls.
It was a fun weekend experience and we were able to learn about a new venue we can enjoy this spring and meet others in our community as well. I would encourage local Clevelanders and anyone visiting to stop in and catch a show! Check out a few of the images we captured during the open house.
