Hailed as, Cultural Ambassador to the World, choreographer Alvin Ailey, founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and performed on March 30,1958 for the first time with a group of young black modern dancers at New York’s 92nd Street YM-YWHA.
Now 50+ years later, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's incomparable dancers continue to bring you the pulse-racing thrill of contemporary favorites and the spirit -lifting joy of such classics as Alvin Ailey's masterpiece, Revelations. We had the opportunity to see a live performance last month, downtown at the Cleveland Playhouse Square and I truly enjoyed myself! The music and choreography were mesmerizing and the dancers found creative ways to engage the audience. While the North American portion of the tour has ended, the group is still touring internationally and will offer more events next year. If you have not seen the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater yet, you owe it to yourself to catch a show when they are in your area!
